Birth of an idea. |

Aero-ist Clothing Limited has been formed by the Husband and Wife team of Jeremy and Nikki Atkins. The company has been established in South Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom.
Aero-ist Clothing Limited is an exciting new company setup to produce Clothing for the Flying Community.
We have started with a range of Tee Shirts, Polo/Drill Shirts and kids clothes. Our aim is to create an image of understated quality whilst at the same time encouraging a feeling of fraternity amongst Flyers.
Our range encompasses Mens, Ladies and Kids sections, all areas we feel are currently poorly served. Our 'Junior Aero-ists' range is just the thing for budding Pilots!
Founders' Backgrounds
Jeremy obtained his PPL in 1986, but allowed it to lapse a few years later. After a 17 year break Jeremy decided to return to flying, it took a year and around 18 hours getting revalidated in January 2008 at Conington (EGSF).
Whilst undergoing his re-validation the question-mark of what to wear when flying arose? The choice of flying clothing seems to be divided between full flying suits, which seemed a bit much for flying a Cessna or PA28, or the full white shirt and eppaulette regalia, which unless you make a living from flying seems a bit pretentious in the flying club bar!
It is bad enough for the gents, but what does the Aviatrix or Junior flyer wear? There seems to be very little currently on the market that fills this gap, this is where Aero-ist is firmly aiming! |

Background in the air |
|
|
Jeremy grew up surrounded by aviation, one Grandfather had joined the RAF in 1921 (one of the first Halton apprentices, graduating as a propulsion technician), serving on aircraft carriers, 19 sqn Spitfires and CFS Tiger Moths. After the war he joined East Angian Flying Services which became Channel Airways, the 2nd largest independant airline in Europe of the '60s. He became Technical Director and retired when Channel went into liquidation during the '70s.
The other Grandfather had a different relationship with aviation, spending most of the war in North Africa either jumping out of aircraft with the then-fledgling Parachute Regiment, or destroying enemy aircraft as part of Special Raiding Forces, part of the fledgling SAS |

With a Father that had held a PPL on Austers, it wasn't long until the flying bug hit, first taking control of a Piper Cub on a flight from Old Warden at the age of Nine. Joining the Air Cadets at 13, Jeremy was awarded a 30 hour RAF Flying Scholarship at 17, extending it by 8 hours to be awarded the PPL.
Having been turned down for Pilot with the Royal Air Force, Jeremy went back and successfully applied for Air Loadmaster. Unfortunately it was not to be, after 120 hours on Wessex and 18 months in the RAF, he found himself back in Civvy street. | |
And Nikki? Well she is just resigned to the fact that the children will grow up as enthusiastic aviators, although she was persuaded to sample the endearing delights of the venerable Chipmunk (see picture above) flown by renowned Aviatrix, Carol De Solla 'Janie'
Here is the inspiration for the Junior Aero-ist Character 'Wes' a charicature of the Mighty Wessex. Wes is solid, dependable and always ready to help out, if a little bit old, slow and noisy!
We are working on some friends to join him in the air.
